Fractions

Hanna is a teenage girl with a history of bullying and abuse, and little reason to trust adults. In ninth grade, she meets Patrik, the new boy in school who is awkward and shy. They form a rare, close friendship, and Patrik begins to reveal what is happening in his own home.

Hanna finds a chosen family with Patrik and his older brother, Rickard. When Patrik is violently attacked and later dies, she tries to navigate grief, strained relationships, and school.

When her absences from school affects her grades, the school assigns her a new study partner, Ash, a boy with muscular dystrophy. As their relationship deepens, love and care do not make grief or uncertainty any easier.

Fractions is a character-driven coming-of-age novel set in the mid 1990’s in Stockholm.
